Boeing said that it has completed a software fix for its grounded 737 MAX airliner. The software update is part of the company’s effort to address critical safety issues with the plane after two fatal crashes this year.

The company said it would soon work to schedule a certification flight with the Federal Aviation Administration. The agency has come under fire for its previous certification of the aircraft despite ongoing problems with the automatic flight control system.

“With safety as our clear priority, we have completed all of the engineering test flights for the software update,” Boeing chairman, CEO and president Dennis Muilenburg said in a statement Thursday.
